Common Types of Windshield Cracks & Chips We Repair
It is crucial to repair rock chips quickly before temperature shifts or bumps cause them to spread across your entire windshield. Here are the common types of breaks we service every day:
Windshield Star Break
A Star break is damage that exhibits a series of cracks or "legs" emanating from the point of impact. This type of break has multiple legs extending outwards and is characterized by its distinct "X" shape or star-like appearance. If caught early, it can be sealed to prevent the legs from splitting the whole glass.
Windshield Bullseye
A Bullseye is damage marked by a separated cone in the outer layer of glass that results in a dark circle around the center impact point. It is round, clear, and has no visible cracks radiating from the center. Bullseye chips are highly repairable and look very clean after sealing.
Windshield Half Moon
A Half Moon break is a partial Bullseye damage that is typically no larger than one inch. The Half Moon consists of a half-circle, partial cone of separated glass around the point of impact. Like the standard bullseye, it is highly receptive to our resin sealing process.
Windshield Combination
A Combination break is damage with multiple characteristics, such as a Star chip inside a Bullseye, or short/long cracks radiating from the core impact zone. These are more severe, but can still be fully repaired if the diameter of the body (excluding legs) does not exceed 2 inches.
